Catherine Ford is a British actress born in Bloomsbury. After her father's departure from her family, she was brought up by her mother godparents and grandmother. While she was a small girl, she was diagnosed with an obsessional disorder, and also suffered from anxiety because of the word association. Ford began performing in her teen years and joined an actor in the National Youth Theatre. She was accepted into Sylvia Young Theatre School but after one week decided she was not a fit. Ford, instead of applying to Central School of Speech and Drama and securing a place at the third time she applied for and was awarded an admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama. Shaun Dingwall - who later appeared as Pete Tyler in Doctor Who - was one of her classmates. Ford received her degree in 1993. However, prior to that, Ford made a television debut, appearing on Surgical Spirit in an episode that aired in 1990. Ford took the professional name of Catherine Tate. Tate appeared on TV in the Nineties in shows like The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. Apart from her regular stage work, Tate was a part of with the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2000-2001. However, Tate quickly began gaining attention for her stand-up comic, which she added to her resume in the year 1996.
